Departments, Jobs, Crews, Classes and Crafts.
Department:[000-zzz]
The DEPARTMENT allows the collective grouping of
EMPLOYEES primarily for reporting purposes. The DEPARTMENT is
assigned by the user. DEPARTMENT is not utilized during TIMECARD
processing; however, many reports may be sorted and selected on
the DEPARTMENT column.
For example, by assigning the DEPARTMENT number
'01' to the accounting department and '02' to the sales department,
the user can generate reports, both detail and summary, for each
of the departments, separately or combined.
Note: Examples of usage, such as the DEPARTMENT
example above, represents neither a restriction nor a recommendation
unless otherwise noted.
Job:[000-zzz]
JOB allows the collective grouping of EMPLOYEES
into their JOB assignments. JOBS are assigned by the Company.
Unlike DEPARTMENT, however, JOB is designed to reflect a current
project, task or location for an EMPLOYEE or CREW and is part
of TIMECARD processing. An EMPLOYEE'S JOB may change from time
to time, whereas the Department designation is not normally changed.
Crew:[0000-zzzz]
The CREW generally reflects a location or work
force under a single supervisor (or foreman).
Class:[000-zzz]
The CLASS designates an EMPLOYEE'S position, skill
(or pay) level. Examples might be Supervisor, Foreman, Journeyman,
Apprentice etc.
Craft:[000-zzz]
The CRAFT specifies an EMPLOYEE'S talents, profession
or trade. Examples might be Painter, Carpenter, Doctor etc.
Note: CREWS, CLASSES, and CRAFTS are assigned by
the user. They should be well thought out to allow for future
growth and diversity requirements.
